Mr. Carl Clinton Liebert, III, has been Chief Executive Officer and President since March 11, 2019, at AutoNation, Inc. formerly, he served as Chief Operating Officer and executive vice president of USAA. The San Antonio-based United Services Automobile Association is a financial services company with about 13 million members. He previously was CEO of 24-Hour Fitness, executive vice president of store operations for The Home Depot, and has held leadership roles with General Electric and Circuit City. Liebert is a former Naval officer.
He obtained his MBA from Vanderbilt University, Owen Graduate School of Management. Mr. Liebert was responsible for the overall business strategy and delivering a seamlessly integrated omnichannel customer and member experience in the companies he has worked for in the past.
Liebert described his management style as collaborative and emphasized that he’s a learner first. AutoNation has 26,000 employees and about 250 new-vehicle rooftops nationwide. “The only way we’re going to be successful is to unleash 26,000 associates to get after this,” he said. “Being a part of a team, that’s what makes organizations successful.”
